As of late 2024/early 2025, Korg has not officially released a Korg 01/W Virtual Instrument in the VST, AU, or AAX format.

This is frustrating for a simple reason: Korg has released software versions of almost everything else. Cons: Let’s address the elephant in the room

So why skip the 01/W?

The Rumor Mill:

To understand the VST, you must understand the hardware. The Korg 01/W was the successor to the wildly popular M1. While the M1 defined the late 80s, the 01/W defined the early 90s. It introduced the "Wave Sequencing" concept to a broader audience and offered a massive 32-voice polyphony (expandable to 64), which was staggering for the time.

Its sound was distinct. It wasn't trying to mimic a Minimoog. It was trying to mimic an orchestra, a rock band, and a futuristic soundscape all at once. The 01/W is the sound of early techno, ambient house, and countless TV soundtracks of the era. It is gritty yet clean, digital but full of character. So why skip the 01/W
