Google Play Services uses different APK variants for different screen densities to optimize memory usage:
Google Play Services is not the same as the Google Play Store. Think of it as the backbone of Google’s ecosystem. It handles authentication, location services, push notifications, and syncing. Without an up-to-date version, apps like YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, and even Uber will crash instantly.
As of 2023, Google officially ended support for Android KitKat (4.4). The last official API level supporting KitKat was API level 19. While Google no longer pushes auto-updates to these devices, the final compatible versions of Google Play Services still work—but only if you know what you are looking for.
Download an app like Droid Hardware Info (if the Play Store works) or check your device specs online. For 99% of 2013-2014 phones running 4.4.2, you need the armeabi-v7a (ARM) variant.
