A serious RP server advertised "500 players." A streamer joined. He found 80 real players in the city... and 420 fake players standing in a single nightclub. They were all identical models in default clothes, staring at a wall. The server lagged horribly because the CPU was trying to manage 500 connections. The streamer quit in 10 minutes.
Some servers use Transparent Seeding. They label bots with [AI] or [Seeder] in their names. For example: Auto_Joe [AI]. This allows the server to look populated while being honest. Unfortunately, most owners don't do this because players still avoid AI tags. Fake Players Fivem

Fake players rarely drive. If you see 50 players online, but only 3 cars moving on the map, something is wrong. Real players treat cars as extensions of their character. It is a cat-and-mouse game that will likely never end
